Women's Soccer Draws with Cougars to Wrap Up Regular Season

MORRIS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team wrapped up regular season play on Saturay afternoon with a 2-2 draw at Minnesota Morris. The Vikings move to 8-6-3 overall and 8-2-2 following the decision while the Cougars go to 2-11-3 overall and 2-7-3 in the conference. Bethany will now host Northwestern at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6th in a UMAC semifinal matchup.

Bethany would open the scoring midway through the first half as Mia Johnson
would take a through ball from Olaitz Azkue Muguruza and evade a few Morris defenders before punching it into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead.

That goal would be the only of the first half though, as Arayah Baker would save both shots put on her in net for the 1-0 halftime advantage.

The pace of play would pick up a bit in the second and the Cougars would use an errant pass to get a free chance just two minutes in. Ema Cortes Carvalho, who subbed into goal at the half, would save the breakaway opportunity but the rebound would be punched in to even the score.

Elena Luján Rubio would break the tie in the 63rd minute, as the Vikings would use a counterattack with Azkue finding Lujan Rubio on the right side and she would knock in the goal for the 2-1 lead.

Morris would net the game's final goal with just seven minutes to play, as a cross would be sent in and a Cougar would be waiting on the other side to head it home to bring the game to it's 2-2 final.

Cortes Carvalho made four saves in net in the second half for the Vikings, who outshot Morris 21-13 in the contest.
