MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team traveled to North Central on Saturday afternoon and posted a convincing 110-86 win over NCU. With the win the Vikings move to 20-3 overall and 12-0 in the UMAC while the Rams fall to 10-13 overall and 7-5 in the conference.
This game was fast paced from the opening tip, as Bethany would climb out to a 15-10 lead in the games first 4:21 thanks in part to a pair of
Xavier Patterson threes. Five straight from the Rams would even the score at 15 before
Drew Sagedahl would score seven in a row to put the Vikings up 22-15.
NCU would close the gap, eventually bringing the score to within three points before the Vikings would quickly push it back to eight. As the half neared its end, NCU would knock down a few free throws late that seemed like it would keep it at an eight point game headed to the break, but a double clutch three from Sagedahl would find its home as time expired to put Bethany up 51-40.
The Vikings would score the first five points of the second half and it wasn't until three minutes in that NCU would knock down a triple to get on the board. After a layup from the Rams with 15 minutes to go brought the deficit back down to 11, the Viking offense would start to find its groove.
NCU would match the offensive output at first keeping the deficit at 11 points with 14 minutes to go, but a quick 8-2 Viking run put them up 67-50. The Rams continued to hang around for the next few minutes before the Bethany offense went into overdrive just over midway through the half. Over the next two minutes and 25 seconds the Vikings would outscore North Central 16-2 to claim a 94-66 lead with six minutes to go.
From there on out they wouldn't look back, as the shots continued to fall and they defeated the Rams 110-86.
Sagedahl had a big day posting 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting while
Hunter Nielsen notched 18 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and a pair of steals.
Jax Madson,
Mason Ackley, and Patterson also reached double figures for the Vikings, with Ackley adding 12 rebounds in the contest.
Bethany lit it up from long range in the contest, connecting on 14-of-28 three pointers while their 41 made field goals tied a season high.
The Vikings will be back at home next Friday when they host Senior night against Northland at 7:15 p.m.
