Men's Basketball Hits Century Mark in Win Over Northland

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's basketball team Friday night hosted Northland and took home a 100-67 win. With the win the Vikings move to 21-3 overall and 13-0 in the UMAC while the LumberJacks fall to 0-24 overall and 0-13 in the conference.

Bethany came out of the gates strong in this one, as they climbed out to a 12-3 lead in the games first four minutes. Northland notched a few buckets but the Vikings would use seven straight to gain a 21-8 advantage. After pushing their lead to 18 points at 33-15, Xavier Patterson, Mason Ackley, and Justin Schrupp would hit three straight threes to spark a 9-2 run and go up 42-17.

With Bethany leading by 25 with 7:47 to play, the LumberJacks would start to find its groove offensively in the halves final minutes, but Bethany would match them in points as they took a 57-32 lead into the break.

Northland came out with a renewed energy in the second half as they would score 13 of the first 15 points to trail just 59-45 with 15 minutes to play. Bethany would quell the run though, as they would get timely baskets inside and stops defensively to keep their lead around 15 points.

The Vikings would start to run away with it late though, as they would really push their lead after Dominik Bangu hit a pair of triples followed a few minutes later by a Schrupp three to extend the Viking lead from 19 to 28 in a matter of minutes. To put the exclamation point on top, Quincy Oriwa would get a monster dunk in the final three minutes as the Vikings took the win.

Bangu led all scorers in the contest with 21 points thanks to 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc, while Sagedahl added 18 off the bench. Patterson, Jax Madson, and Kegan Heiderscheidt also reached double figures, with Heiderscheidt also dishing out a career high nine assists.

Bethany will be back at it tomorrow when they host UW-Superior in the regular season finale at 4:45 p.m.
