MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's basketball team hosted Northland on Friday night and took down the LumberJills 81-47. With the win the Vikings move to 7-17 overall and 7-6 in the conference while the Jills fall to 0-21 overall and 0-13 in the UMAC.
The game would get off to a slow start, with neither team able to get much going in the early going. Northland would score first in the contest before Bethany would score 12 of the next 14 for the 12-4 lead. The Vikings would get three more before the end of the quarter with Northland scoring one to make the tally 15-5 after 10 minutes. Â
The LumberJills would find their shooting touch in the second keeping the game in striking distance as they would answer the Vikings baskets with scores of their own. BLC would push their lead to 14 points with just under a minute to play but the Jills would connect on a mid range jumpshot following by a three with time expiring to cut the deficit to nine at the half.Â
Bethany used a strong first few minutes of the third quarter to take a 45-26 lead midway through the frame. Northland would get their first basket of the quarter with four minutes left and would close the quarter a few minutes later on a 5-0 run to bring the score to 53-39 headed to the fourth.Â
The Vikings came out firing in the fourth, scoring the first 11 points of the quarter thanks in part to three baskets inside from Kaylee Hunter. Leading by 25, Bethany would continue to add onto their lead in the final seven minutes, taking the 84-47 win.Â
Gianna Klarenbeek led the Vikings in this one with 17 points to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Lexiss Trygg had a big game off the bench with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Hunter added 14.Â
Bethany will be back in action tomorrow when they conclude their regular season in a matchup with UW-Superior at 3 p.m.
