MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team put up 12 runs on 12 hits in the bottom of the first inning against Martin Luther on Wednesday afternoon en route to a 16-0 win. With the win the Vikings move to 10-9 overall and 1-0 in the UMAC while the Knights fall to 2-13 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
It was a cold day at Thomas Park but the Bethany Lutheran bats were hot from the start. After
Kaija Mork had a quick inning for Bethany in the circle, they would step to the plate and rip off nine consecutive hits to open the contest.
Sydney Jacobs would knock an RBI double her second time through the lineup to make the score 9-0 before a Knight error, an
Ana Christofferson single, and a
Jade Krenik bases loaded walk all plated runs to make the score 12-0 after one inning.
Bethany would pick up where they left off in the first in the second, with
Katelyn Halbach, Jacobs, and
Emily Doyle would load the bases to open the inning. Mork would then step up and deliver a 2-RBI single to make the tally 14-0, but MLC would use some great defense with a fielders choice followed by a double play to get out of the inning.
The Vikings would add two more runs in the bottom of the fourth as Mork would add another RBI single and Jacobs would score on a wild pitch to make the score 16-0 to claim the win.
Mork got the win in the circle, throwing four innings and allowing five hits and no runs.
Jacobs and Mork each posted four hits at the plate to lead the offense, with Mork driving in four runs and Jacobs scoring four times. Christofferson and Doyle each added two hits to join the Vikings with multiple hits in the contest.
