ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team completed the series sweep of Northland on Friday afternoon, defeating the LumberJills in a pair of UMAC battles. The Vikings, now 12-9 overall and 4-0 in the UMAC on the year, defeated the Jills 14-2 in game one before a 13-1 win in game two.
Bethany 14 -2 Northland (5 innings)
Bethany opened the scoring in the top of the first inning of game one thanks to RBI hits from
Kaija Mork and
Ana Christofferson before a two-run shot from
Emily Nelson made the score 4-0.
The Jills would use a walk and a pair of hits in the second to push two runs across but Bethany would answer again using a Northland error and a Mork triple to plate a pair of runs and make the score 6-2 after three.
Mork once again had a run producing at bat in the fourth, plating two runs on a base hit to left field to make the score 8-2 after four innings.
The Vikings then really piled it on in the fifth, as they would bring 11 batters to the plate in the inning and use five hits as well as a Northland error to plate six more runs to make the score 14-2 which would hold for the final.
Mork and Christofferson led the Vikings at the plate with three hits apiece, while
Sydney Jacobs added two.
Mork also got the win in the circle, tossing four innings and allowing two runs while
Becca Kuck recorded the final three outs.
Bethany 13 - 1 Northland (5 innings)
Jacobs would hit her third triple in the past two days before scoring on a wild pitch to open the scoring in the first in game two on Friday afternoon.
After plating one in the first, Bethany would add three more in the second as
Brynja Mielke,
Katelyn Halbach, and Jacobs would produce run-scoring at-bats to bring the tally to 4-0.
The Jills would use a pair of Bethany errors in the bottom of the second to plate their first run but the Vikings would respond in a huge way in the top of the third to all but put this one away.
They would bring 13 total hitters to the plate in the inning, plating nine runs on eight hits to take a commanding 13-1 lead. Christofferson and
Haley Stockman both had two extra base hits in the inning while each bringing home two runs.
From there on out it was all
Kayla Senne, as the junior would cruise to a shutout win, allowing just two hits in the five inning contest while striking out eight.
Stockman led the Vikings in the nightcap with three hits, while
Emily Doyle, Christofferson, and
Jordan Green also added a pair of base hits.
The Vikings will be back in action next weekend when they host North Central on Friday for a contest at 5:00 p.m.
