Late Inning Runs Trouble Vikings in Contests with Pacific

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 FOREST GROVE, Ore. - The Bethany Lutheran baseball team Friday took on Pacific in a pair of seven inning contets, with the Boxers using some late runs support to take the games 6-4 and 9-3. With the results the Vikings fall to 2-6 on the year while Pacific moves to 8-2.

Pacific 6 - 4 Bethany
The Vikings would score the first run of the day, as Tyler Rodgers would drive in Nolan Spence in the second inning of game one as Bethany took the first lead of the day.

Pacific would respond with a run in the second before scratching across another in the fourth to take the 2-1 lead.

In the sixth inning the Boxers would use four hits and three free passes to add four more runs and take a 6-1 lead headed to the seventh.

Bethany would finally get something going in the final inning, as Josh Robb and Rodgers would each drive one-out doubles to bring the one run across. Malachi Santiago would then drive in a run with a base hit before advancing all the way to third after a Boxer error. He would be driven in by a Seth Jones sac fly to clear the bases with two outs. Trailing by two, the Vikings would get two runners on via a walk before a lineout from Spence ended the game.

Gavin Jacobsen took the loss on the mound, working five innings and striking out five while allowing just one earned run.

Spence and Rodgers each had two hits in the contest with Rodgers also scoring a run and adding two RBI.

Pacific 9 - 3 Bethany Lutheran
Similarly to game one the Vikings would score first, this time in the opening frame as Liam Peterson would drive in Seth Jones who had reached via a walk.

Bethany would then load the bases in the second inning with nobody out, but some great defensive play from the Boxers would help them out of the inning and keep the score where it was. Jackson Huiras, who started on the mound for Bethany, worked through the first three innings of the game scoreless as the Vikings maintained their 1-0 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, Connor Jones and Lucas Reiff would both get on to open up the inning. After two Viking strikeouts, a passed ball would allow both baserunners to move into scoring position, where Seth Jones would capitalize with a base hit to make the score 3-0.

Huiras then gave up his first run in the bottom of the fourth, as the Boxers would use a sac fly to plate their first run of the game. After a scoreless top of the fifth from Bethany, Pacific's offense would find their footing in the bottom half. Huiras would get the first out before a home run made the score 3-2. The next four batters would reach base, scoring two more runs and putting the score at 4-3 before Josh Robb would come in and get two strikeouts to keep the Boxers at bay.

After a scoreless top of the sixth, Pacific would take advantage of three free passes to load the bases as they would blast a grand slam to make the score 8-3. They would then use four more free bases to plate another run and make the score 9-3 which they would hold onto after a scoreless bottom of the seventh for the win.

Huiras suffered the loss on the bump, throwing 4 1/3 innings and allowing four earned runs.

Seth Jones, Peterson, and Reiff each had two hits in game two for the Vikings with Jones adding two RBI and scoring once.
