Softball Extends Win Streak to 13 Games with Win Over Crown

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team extended their win streak to 13 games on Sunday afternoon with a win over Crown College by a score of 9-1. The Vikings move to 19-9 overall and 7-0 in the UMAC with the win while the Polars fall to 5-23 overall and 3-9 in the conference.

During their 13 game win streak, the Vikings have put on a clinic in the circle, allowing just 10 runs during the stretch and tossing seven shutouts.

Emily Meyer was the one who stepped into the circle today and she continues to post an impressive freshman year. She ran into some trouble to open the contest, as Crown would load the bases in the first inning but she would get a strikeout to erase the threat.

Sydney Jacobs would triple to the left field fence for the Vikings in the bottom half, before an Emily Doyle single to center would give them the early lead.

Bethany would then add another in the second inning as Jolyne LeClair would single would two outs and eventually come around to score after a Katelyn Halbach bunt single led to a Crown error.

Crown would get their first run of the contest in the fourth inning due to a Bethany error, but the Vikings would answer in a big way in the bottom half.

After two Vikings reached early, Elizabeth Cizek would knock a ground rule double over the center field fence to plate them both and make the score 4-1. Jacobs would then single to bring home another run before Doyle would triple and Kaija Mork would double to make the score 7-1 headed to the fifth.

Meyer would put down the Polars 1-2-3 in the top half to preserve the lead before an error to open the bottom half put a Viking on base. Crown would get two straight outs before Anika Rogers would knock and RBI single to center field to make the score 8-1. Two straight singles would follow before a Doyle walk brought in a run to make the score 9-1 and end the game via the eight-run rule.

Jacobs led Bethany with three hits in the contest while Halbach, Doyle, LeClair, and Cizek each had two.

Meyer tossed all five innings in the contest, allowing no runs and striking out six in the win.

Bethany will be back in action on Wednesday when they play an exhibition game against North Dakota State College of Science.
