OWATONNA, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's tennis team Tuesday evening stayed unbeaten in the UMAC as they secured a 5-4 win over Martin Luther. With the win the Vikings move to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference while the Knights fall to 2-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The Vikings kicked things off with doubles play and their play in the first three matches made all the difference. A quick match at No. 1 doubles saw Heitor Damaso and Joao Pugliese win 8-1 before the tandems of Caue Ribeiro and Caike Ribeiro as well as Kyle Deyo and Ezra Greenman each took 8-7 pro-set wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, respectively.
The close matches at No. 2 and No 3. doubles swinging the way of Bethany proved all the more valuable, as the Knights would take four of six matches in singles play. Pugliese would cruise to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles to give the Vikings their fourth point of the match before Damaso clinched at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
