MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran College Esports team is set to send their League of Legends (LoL) team to Nationals tonight, where they will face off with Oklahoma Christian University at 7 p.m.

The Vikings earned an at-large bid to the championships and will be seeded 19th of 32 teams who qualified for the national event. It's the fourth straight year that Bethany has seen its League of Legends squad on the national stage, with a top four finish in 2021 and a top eight finish in 2023.
They earned their way into the following a 6-1 record in the North Conference this year and then by winning three of four matches in the playoffs. They defeated Iowa State in the opening round before falling to top-seeded Maryville University. The Vikings then earned their spot after wins over Purdue University and Minnesota to finish fifth in the North.
The Vikings varsity LoL roster includes five starters and two reserve players. The starters are Aidan Fallon, Maurice Stuckenschneider, Noah Jardigan, Trevor Landkammer, and Garret Weiss, while Jack Nguyen and Ben Haakenson serve as reserves.
About College League of Legends
The Riot Scholastic Association of America (RSAA) governs College League of Legends (CLoL) competition in North America. There are approximately 400 colleges and universities across North America participating in RSAA sanctioned events. Thirty two teams are chosen or qualify for the RSAA League of Legends National Tournament. This year, Bethany earned the vote-in bid and was seeded at number nineteen in the thirty-two team field. Bethany has earned a National Tournament bid in each of the past four competitive seasons. The Vikings finished in the top four in 2021, and in the top eight in 2023.
Collegiate Esports teams and players must be associated with an accredited higher learning institution in the United States or Canada, including four-year colleges, two-year colleges, universities, and graduate schools. Players must be currently enrolled in a degree program lasting at least two years and in academic good standing at the school they are competing for as either a (a) full-time student, or (b) part time student that is a former full-time student within one academic year of their expected graduation. Players must additionally be eligible to participate in school sanctioned club or competitive sports, as defined by the respective institution.
