MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team would hold a 2-1 lead midway through the second half Saturday afternoon but UW-River Falls would score three times in the games final 21 minutes of play to take a 4-2 win. With the loss the Vikings fall to 0-4 on the year while the Falcons move to 5-1.
UWRF controlled possession early in this contest and it paid off in the 14th minute as they would open the scoring with some great combination play.
The Vikings didn't get a lot going early on but drew a corner kick in the 36th minute and
Elena Luján Rubio would send one into the box with
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza waiting on the other end to head it home and even things at one.
10 minutes into the second half, the Vikings would use another corner to find the back of the net, as
Ashley Casper would head in a corner kick off the foot of Lujan Rubio to make it 2-1 and give Bethany the lead.
In the 68th minute River Falls would net the equalizer as they were able to create an advantage and knock home the goal to make it 2-2. The visitors would then find the net two more times in the 76th and 78th minute and were able to hang on late for the 4-2 win.
Ema Cortes Carvalho had a solid match in net, making 10 saves for the Vikings while also knocking a few other Falcon opportunities.
Bethany will next be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Northwestern to open up conference play at 4:30 p.m.
