NORTHFIELD, Minn. - A strong second half performance propelled Bethany women's basketball to a 76-70 win at Carleton on Wednesday night. The Vikings improve to 2-3 with their second straight victory over a MIAC opponent.Â
Bethany was quiet from the field in the first half, shooting just 5-for-19 in the opening quarter and then 7-of-19 in the second, resulting in a 34-26 deficit at halftime.Â
The Vikings found their shooting rhythm in the third quarter, making 10-of-13 from the floor. A three by Megan Wegner followed by three consecutive layups by Kenadi Arndt capped a 9-0 run to tie the game 38-38 at the 5:26 mark. The lead changed sides six time to end the third quarter with the Knights on top 55-53.Â
A three-pointer by Morgan Hulke with 8:46 left in the game tied the score at 57-57 and the Vikings never trailed the rest of the game. Carleton tied the score twice more but the Vikings went on a 10-0 run midway through the quarter to take control.Â
Bethany shot 46 percent from the floor and 45.8 percent from three-point range. The Vikings won the rebound battle 39-27. Arndt led the visitors with 22 points. Wegner was next with 14 points, including four threes, and Hulke added 11 points with three treys and a team-high eight rebounds.Â
The Vikings are back in action Saturday afternoon at Saint Mary's.Â
