WINONA, Minn. - Bethany tennis competed in a dual meet at Saint Mary's on Saturday with the Viking men winning 5-2 and the women losing 7-0.
The men started the match by earning the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Joel Simon and Thales Oliveira won 6-2 at the top spot while Simao Caetano and Mark Barton also won 6-2 at No. 2.
The Vikings then captured four singles victories, each in straight sets. Simon won 6-1. 6-2 at No. 1, Barton won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, Caetano won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3, and Thales won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4. Saint Mary's earned wins at Nos. 5 and 6.
The Bethany women started with two losses in doubles - Emily Yehle and Brianna Lienig lost 6-3 at No. 1, while Sailor Mohlenbrock and Madilyn Omar lost 6-2 at No. 2.
In singles play, Mohlenbrock battled to a first set breaker but lost 7-6 (5-0) and then lost the second 6-0 at No. 1. Yehle lost 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2, Omar lost 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3, and Lienig lost 7-6, 6-2 at No. 4.
The Bethany women will compete at the ITA Midwest Regional next weekend at Gustavus, while the men's ITA regional is set for Sept. 26-27.
