MORRIS, Minn. - Halfway through the conference season, Bethany women's basketball remains undefeated in UMAC play after a 71-63 win at UM-Morris on Wednesday evening. Having now beaten every league opponent the first time through the schedule, the Vikings improve to 9-10 overall and 6-0 in the UMAC.Â
Kaylee Hunter scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Vikings, highlighted by making 5-of-8 three pointers. Morgan Hulke also had a solid game from beyond the arc, making three and finishing with 16 points, six rebounds, and three assists.Â
UM-Morris played with the lead for nearly the entire first quarter, going up by as much as five points on four occasions and led 13-11 going into the second frame. The Vikings took their first lead of the game on a three by Kenadi Arndt with 1:25 left in the half. Hunter hit another trey on the following possession and Hulke ended the half with a jumper to take a 34-32 advantage.Â
After the Vikings went up by seven points in the opening 33 seconds of the third quarter, the Cougars answered with a 14-5 run to go back ahead 46-44 at the 4:35 mark. Arinn McGee made a free throw with 2:37 left to break a 48-48 tie, and the visitors held the lead the rest of the game.Â
Bethany gradually increased its lead in the fourth quarter with its largest advantage of nine points after a layup by McGee with 1:34 on the clock.Â
Bethany increased its shooting percentage throughout the game, making 50 percent of its shots in the fourth quarter and finished at a 41.5 percent clip. The Vikings made 12-of-30 from long range and won the rebound battle 42-32. Arndt led the Vikings on the glass with 10 boards.Â
The Vikings continue their road trip Saturday afternoon at Crown. Bethany won the first meeting 62-30 two weeks ago.Â
