NEW ULM, Minn. - Bethany men's soccer completed the series sweep over Martin Luther on Wednesday afternoon with a 3-0 win. The Vikings have now won four straight and eight of their last nine, improving to 9-5-1 overall and 7-1 in the UMAC.Â
Jamie van Wijland scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 17th minute, putting home his third goal of the season on a corner kick from Guilherme Gancho. One minute later, the Vikings took advantage of a yellow card free kick as Gancho connected with Frederico de Modesto Nobre, who made a cross - deflected by the keeper - and scored by Martim Vilarinho for his third goal of the season.Â
Bethany scored the third and final goal in the 24th minute as a result from yet another free kick from Gancho that sailed over the keeper and off the cross bar. Ted Tendaie collected the ball and scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Tendaie has now scored a goal in four-straight games.Â
The Vikings outshot the Knights 31-8 overall and 19-2 on goal. Brady Price played the first 67 minutes without facing a shot, while Christian Sgarra closed out the game with two saves.Â
Bethany is back home Saturday afternoon against Northwestern. The Vikings beat the Eagles 4-0 on Sept. 19 in St. Paul.Â
