Softball Splits on Day Two of Dome Invite

MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany softball split its two games Sunday in the second day of its invitational at the Maverick All-Sports Dome. The Vikings lost 4-0 to No. 5-ranked Saint Mary's before beating Hamline 6-2, moving to 3-1 overall.

Bethany 0, Saint Mary's 4

The game was a pitchers' duel between Bethany's Emily Meyer and Saint Mary's Makayla Steffes with no runs scored in the first four innings. The Cardinals finally got to Meyer in the fifth with a solo home run and then added three more runs in the sixth on another solo shot, an RBI sac bunt, and an RBI single.

The Vikings were limited to just five hits in the game. Meyer suffered the loss after a complete game outing, allowing four runs on eight hits with one strikeout.

Bethany 6, Hamline 2

After a scoreless first frame, the Vikings scored twice in the second. Aliya Edbom-Kehler singled and later stole home. Orla Keys, who reached on a single to right, stole home as Hayven Linn walked.

The Pipers scored one in the third a couple hits, but the home team answered with two runs in the bottom half. Bryn Weidner hit a leadoff single, stole second, and later scored on a Paige Haala fielder's choice. Haala then scored on an error for a 5-1 lead.

Bethany added a run in the fourth on a sac bunt by Weidner, scoring Linn. Hamline got its second run in the sixth inning, which chased Joie Koll out of the game. Meyer came in relief and worked out of a bases loaded jam and then tossed a shutout seventh to earn the save. Koll earned the win in the circle after pitching 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with two strikeouts. Meyer didn't allow a hit and struck out four.

Edbom-Kehler led at the plate, batting 2-for-3 with a double and a run.

Bethany continues play at the Maverick All-Sports Dome next weekend with four games Saturday and Sunday.
