SEWANEE, Tenn. - Bethany baseball swept Sewanee in a Saturday doubleheader, winning by identical scores of 7-3 in the seven inning games. The Vikings are now 2-1 overall and will wrap up the four-game series at 11 a.m. tomorrow.Â
Game One
Bethany jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second as Vincent Curzie hit a two-run homer. The Tigers got one back in the bottom half, but the Vikings scored another pair in the third as Xander Meissner also hit a two-run homer.Â
Sewanee got within a run in the fifth, scoring two runs on four hits and an error, but the visitors had another answer, this time scoring three runs in the sixth. Seth Jones singled and Joshua Miller scored on an error. Jayden Kopp hit a sac fly and Max Athmann hit an RBI double for a 7-3 lead.Â
Aidan Byrd earned the win after allowing two earned runs in 4.1 innings. He struck out three and allowed four hits. Quentin Holmes earned the save after 2.2 innings of relief. He didn't allow an earned run, gave up three hits and struck out one.Â
Miller led at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with two runs.Â
