OWATONNA, Minn. - Bethany tennis competed in three matches Friday at the West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center. The Viking men (8-4) beat Nebraska Wesleyan 4-3 before a 5-2 loss to St. Olaf, while the women (3-9) lost 7-0 to St. Olaf.
Nebraska Wesleyan earned the doubles point to start the day. Declan Jones and Mark Barton won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles but the Prairie Wolves won the other two. The Vikings then claimed four of the six singles matches. Jones won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Joel Simon won 1-6, 6-3, 10-6 at No. 2, Daniel Poulakidas won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3, and Simao Caetano won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5.
The Vikings also lost the doubles point against St. Olaf. Poulakidas and Simon won 6-4 at No. 2. In singles action, the Vikings claimed two points. Simon won 6-3, 5-7, 16-14 at No. 2 and Luiz Gustavo won 6-3, 6-7, 14-12 at No. 6.
The women were swept in doubles and lost in straight sets in singles with just four player competing.
The Bethany women are back in action Saturday at UW-Stout for matches against the host Blue Devils and Wartburg, while the men next compete April 10 at Crown.
