Vikings Sweep Cougars

MORRIS, Minn. – The Vikings continued where they left off on Saturday to open UMAC play with a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota Morris on Sunday afternoon, winning 11–6 in game one before completing the sweep with a 5–0 shutout in game two at Holmberg Field.

Game 1 – Bethany Lutheran 11, Minnesota Morris 6

The Vikings wasted no time taking control of the opener, as they poured it on in the first inning scoring eight runs. Bethany later added three insurance runs in the sixth to secure the five-run victory.

Bethany totaled nine hits in the contest, led by Bryn Weidner, who went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Hayven Linn, who added two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Emily Doyle also delivered a key offensive performance, driving in two runs while collecting a double.

Joie Koll earned the win in the circle after working the first four innings, allowing six runs on nine hits. Emily Meyer provided three innings of strong relief, holding the Cougars scoreless while striking out three to close out the game.

Game 2 – Bethany Lutheran 5, Minnesota Morris 0

The Vikings carried that momentum into game two, combining timely hitting with another dominant pitching performance to complete the sweep.

Just like game one, Bethany opened the scoring in the first inning before breaking the game open with a four-run third inning. The Vikings recorded eight hits in the nightcap, with Emily Doyle leading the way with two hits and two RBIs, while Bryn Weidner also collected two hits and scored twice.

Emily Meyer turned in a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits while striking out two and not issuing a walk over seven innings to earn her 10th win of the season.

Bethany's defense backed Meyer throughout the game, working out of several Minnesota Morris scoring threats and keeping the Cougars off the scoreboard despite six hits and seven runners left on base.

With the sweep, the Vikings improved to 15–6 overall and 3–0 in UMAC play, continuing a strong start to conference competition. The Vikings continue UMAC play this Thursday, April 2nd at 5:30 pm against UW-Superior at home.
