MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran softball team cruised to a 15-4 victory over Crown College on Friday afternoon, remaining unbeaten in UMAC play.
On a cold Senior Day, Emily Meyer got the start in the circle and delivered a strong outing. Meyer (W, 15-5) worked four innings, allowing three runs while striking out six. Joie Koll came on in relief and closed out the game in dominant fashion, striking out the side in the fifth inning.
Crown opened the scoring in the top of the first with an RBI double, but Bethany answered immediately. Olivia Sanborn led off the bottom half of the inning with an inside-the-park home run and finished the day just a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
From there, Bethany took control, putting together consistent offensive pressure and pulling away for the run-rule victory.
The Vikings' seniors made a strong impact on their big day. Between all of them (Carly Nelson #22, Emily Doyle #28, Aliya Edbom-Kehler #77, and Orla Keys #99) they went 5-7 with a HR (Doyle) 4 RBIs, and 7 runs scored. A phenomenal way to celebrate all the young ladies who have contributed so much blood, sweat, and tears to The Vikings' Softball Program.
With this win the Vikings remain unbeaten in UMAC play. The Vikings will continue conference play this Tuesday, 4/21, as they travel to Martin Luther for a double header starting at 3 pm.
