MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany softball completed the series sweep over UW-Superior on Wednesday afternoon, improving to 18-6 overall and 6-0 in the UMAC. The Vikings won game two 11-3 in six innings and edged the Yellowjackets 8-7 in game three.Â
Bethany 11, UW-Superior 3 (6 inn.)
Superior gained the early advantage with three runs in the first with a two-run homer and an RBI single. After two scoreless frames, the Vikings exploded for eight runs in the fourth, highlighted by an Addie Ahern grand slam. Bryn Weidner added an RBI single, Olivia Sanborn scored on an error, and Avery Carlson hit a two-run single for an 8-3 lead.Â
The Vikings added three more in the sixth to force the run rule. Sanborn scored on a throwing error and Carlson hit a walk off two-run single.Â
Emily Meyer improved to 12-5 in the circle with a complete game performance. She allowed three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Weidner led at the plate, batting 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.Â
Bethany 8, UW-Superior 7
The Vikings scored first in the first as Carly Nelson hit an RBI single and after a scoreless second, the Yellowjackets took a 3-1 lead in the third on four hits. Bethany immediately tied the game in the bottom half as Aliya Edbom-Kehler doubled and scored on a throwing error, followed by an RBI single by Ahern.Â
Bethany added five runs on five hits and an error in the fourth. Emily Doyle, Nelson, and Carlson each hit RBI doubles, while Carlson scored on an error.Â
Superior added a pair of runs in the sixth and made thing interested in the seventh with two more runs to make it a one-run game. Joie Koll, who improved to 6-1, lasted six innings with seven runs on 12 hits and three strikeouts. Meyer entered the game in the seventh and picked up the save with a pair of strikeouts while stranding the bases full.Â
Nelson and Ahern each had three hits for the Vikings.Â
Bethany travels to Central College on Friday for a non-conference doubleheader.Â
