ADRIAN, Mich. - Bethany baseball suffered an 8-2 loss to No. 16 Adrian in game two of the NCAA Super Regionals Saturday. The Vikings (35-7) and Bulldogs (36-12) will now play the deciding game three at 9 p.m. EST with the winner advancing to the Division III World Series.Â
After a seven-hour rain delay to start the game, Adrian was able to do nearly all of its damage in the second inning with six runs on as many hits. Aidan Byrd made it through the second but was lifted in the third, suffering his first loss of the season (9-1).Â
Drew Hedtke came in relief and tossed the next four frames, allowing one runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. The Vikings did not get a base runner until Parker Anderson led off the sixth with a walk. Two batters later, Josh Miller connected for the Vikings' first hit of the game.Â
Bethany ended the shutout with a pair of runs in the eighth. Miller singled, Jayden Knutson walked, and Max Athmann drove in a run with a double down the left field line. After an intentional walk to Yunior Pena to load the bases, Gary Swann singled in another run, but the Bulldogs got out the jam with a deep fly out to center.Â
Adrian added its last run in the ninth off Quentin Holmes who pitched the final three frames. Holmes allowed three hits with two strikeouts in his first appearance since April 27.Â
Miller led at the plate, batting 2-for-4 with a run. Bethany was limited to just five hits - their fewest since April 6.Â
