MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany men's soccer opened its 2026 season Tuesday afternoon with a 1-1 tie against Nebraska Wesleyan at Scheels Field.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Vikings outshoot the visitors 7-5, Nebraska Wesleyan ended the draw with a goal in the 62nd minute. The Vikings responded 13 minutes later as Diogo Castanheira moved up the right side and connected with Kelvin Hanson in front of the goal for a score.
The entire match was evenly played with each team connecting for six shots on goal. Corner kicks had a slight edge to the Prairie Wolves at 5-4 while the Vikings had two fewer fouls.
Brady Price made five saves in goal for the Vikings in a complete game effort.
Bethany hits the road Thursday afternoon for a non-conference match at Carleton. Last season the Knights beat the Vikings 3-2 in Mankato.
