MORRIS, Minn. - Bethany volleyball lost in three sets Thursday at UM-Morris, dropping to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in the UMAC.
Morris scored the first four points of the opening set and never trailed. The Vikings closed the gap to one point eight times, and went on a 4-0 run late to make the score 23-22, but the home team finished it off 25-23.
Bethany gained its first lead of the night early in the second at 4-3 and gradually expanded the gap to as many as five points at 13-8, thanks to a kill by Holly Hinderks, but the Cougars responded with an 11-2 run and went on to win 25-18.
The two sides traded the lead three times early in the third set, but eight straight points by Morris gave the home team the edge the rest of the way for another 25-18 win.
Avery Carlson continued to lead the defense with 23 digs. Marissa Stamer posted 19 assists and 10 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. Hinderks led a limited attack with six kills.
