Second-year Assistant Coach Melvin Thomas is no stranger to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) soccer. The St. Peter native began his collegiate career by playing one season at Northland College. As a freshman, Thomas led the Lumberjacks in scoring with five goals, two assists and 12 points. For his efforts, Thomas was named UMAC First Team All-Conference. His collegiate career was cut short when family obligations forced him to return home.
As a high schooler, Thomas was a three-year letter winner for the St. Peter Saints and was named an All-South Central Conference forward in 2007. On the club level, Thomas helped the St. Peter Club soccer team to three consecutive district championships and a 2007 state championship.
Thomas is currently finishing his degree in Elementary Education at Rasmussen College. He has also coached in the St. Peter Soccer Club for the past several years. Coach Thomas will work primarily with the Vikings forwards, game day operations and recruiting.
Coach Lyngholm’s comments: “I’ve known Melvin for the past several years and I think he’s an excellent addition to our staff. Melvin lives and breathes soccer. He has a positive attitude, an infectious personality and a great report with both our players and coaches.”
