Mankato, Minn. - The Bethany volleyball girls came out to fight tonight, and fight they did. In a five game match, four of the five games were within 3 points. The Vikings managed to beat non-conference opponent Hamline in five sets.
The first game started out a little rough for the Vikings as they missed seven serves throughout the game causing them to fall by a mere three points 25-22. Both teams had trouble serving throughout the match, Bethany missing 12 total serves and Hamline 13.
The second game Bethany Lutheran came out strong taking the set 25-16. The third game went to the Vikings 25-23. Hamline would not give up easily to stay alive taking the fourth set 27-25.
Bethany knew they had to win the last game and fought hard to do so. Emily Schrupp (Norwood, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) led the team with an amazing night at the net getting her personal best of 19 kills for the Vikings, she also had her hand of four block assists. Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) added 13 kills. With a strong offense the Vikings won the last game and the match 16-14.
Taylor Kahlow (Henderson, Minn./LeSueur-Henderson) had 24 digs for the Vikings. Nicole Jones (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) added 21 digs and 50 assists. It was another tough win for the Vikings, but a satisfying and needed victory.
The Vikings will travel to St. Paul on Thursday to take on Northwestern.
