Mankato, Minn. - The Vikings went 0-2 this weekend falling to conference opponent St. Scholastica, and then non-conference rival Coe on Saturday.
It was a tough loss for Bethany as they fell to St. Scholastica in three games. The Vikings had small errors that led to their loss, including seven missed serves. Overall they played a good game against the Saints, but were unable to come away with a victory.
First game was lost 25-18, and the girls had a nice run of points to help them catch up to the Saints. The next game, the Vikings came out strong right away, capturing a six point lead, but St. Scholastica was able to come back and win the game 25-19. The third game the Vikings were once again within reach of a win, but a stretch of points near the end allowed St. Scholastica to take the game and the match, winning 25-20.
Vanessa Harkins (LeCenter, Minn./LeCenter) led the team with 11 kills, and three ace serves for the Vikings. Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) added nine kills and 10 digs, and Nicole Jones (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato East) added her own 11 digs with her 25 assists. The Vikings had a total of 38 kills, compared to the 41 by St. Scholastica.
In the second game of the day the Vikings took on Coe falling to them in three sets. The Vikings lost 25-19, 25-18, and 25-15. It was a tough match to lose in three, as it was the last home game of the season.
The Vikings switched up their playing strategy throughout the games, but were unable to find an answer to Coe’s defense.
Edmison led the team with seven kills, and also added six digs for the Vikings. Laura Holt (Mapleton, Minn./Maple River) added six kills. With nearly 87 total kill attempts for each team, the Vikings only had 25 kills to the Kohawk’s 37 kills. Each team had seven services aces to add to the game as well.
The Vikings will be traveling to Martin Luther College on Wednesday for the next game at 7 p.m.
