Box Score
Mankato, Minn. - The Vikings men's soccer team played a non-conference game against St. Olaf Tuesday night, and unfortunately fell to the Oles 3-1. But the score did not reflect how close the game actually was.
The Vikings outplayed St. Olaf for most of the first half, and freshman Juan Garcia (Arlington, Minn./Sibley) scored the first goal of the game in the 24th minute. Soon, St. Olaf received a free kick outside the box and tied up the game. Thanks to excellent defense by Jimmy DuTremaine (Bloomington, Minn./Bloomington Jefferson) and freshman Johnny Luna (Reno, Nev./Incline), the Vikings ended the half in a tie.
The Oles scored two more goals in the second half in the 51st and 65th minutes. Felipe Ortega (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) was relentless trying to get the Vikings back in it taking a team high seven shots. The Vikings were not able to respond, despite out-shooting St. Olaf 17-10.
The men will take on Northwestern in a conference match this Friday in St. Paul.
