Mankato, Minn. - The Bethany men's soccer team tied Minnesota Morris on Saturday to clench the second seed in the playoffs. This tie also meant that the boys will have home-field advantage when they play MN-Morris again on Tuesday in the UMAC play-offs.
The Vikings had good weather and a good crowd for the game. The game was an even match-up with the defense of both teams shutting down the offense.
The Cougars had 12 shots, forcing Bethany keeper Cam Koopman (Phelps, Wis./Phelps) to make four saves. The Vikings had 11 shots, two of which were on net.
Each team had a high number of fouls with Bethany logging 18, and Minnesota-Morris 16. After 110 minutes of play neither team was able to find the back of the net.
It's going to be an interesting game when these teams meet again on Tuesday at 2 p.m. for the semifinal round of the UMAC post-season tournament. The Vikings end the regular season 12-7-1 overall and 9-4-1 in the conference.
