Softball keeps rolling defeating Macalester

Mankato, Minn. – The Viking softball team is on a roll remaining undefeated at home including two today against Macalester. Bethany Lutheran defeated the Scots 11-2, and then 8-6.

Kyla Schapekahm (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague) pitched a full game again for the Vikings. Her arm has been solid, and in six innings she gave up just six hits and one earned run. She struck out five batters and walked two. The two runs scored by the Sots happened in the first inning; Schapekahm shut them down in the following five.

 

The bats were swinging for the Vikings. Leading the way was Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) and Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn. / Mankato West). Edmison was 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Rauchman was 2-4 with one run and four RBIs. Rauchman’s double to right center cleared the loaded bases to end the game.

 

Both the Vikings and Scots struggled a little defensively. Bethany Lutheran had four errors in the field, while Macalester had three.

 
Game 2 (W 8-6)

Edmison got the start on the mound for the Vikings in the second game, she went two innings giving up six hits and four runs. Rauchman then came in for three innings allowing just three hits and no runs. Schapekahm came in for the last two innings earning the save after giving up two runs and striking out two.

 

Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn. / West Lutheran) went 3-4 with two runs to lead Bethany Lutheran. Rauchman continued to be a threat at the plate going 2-3 with two RBI and one run. Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn. / Mankato West) also went 2-3 scoring twice.

 

The Vikings scored eight runs on eight hits committing two errors in the field. The Scots had 12 hits, but had three costly errors.

 

Next, Bethany Lutheran plays Presentation at home. The doubleheader is set to begin at 3 p.m.
