Softball handed first conference loss of the season

Mankato, Minn. - Viking softball put up a good fight against Presentation but succumbed to two losses. Bethany now has an overall record of 8-11, and 3-2 in the UMAC.

 

Game 1 (L 8-3)

Kyla Schapekahm (New Prague, Minn./New Prague), a freshman, was the starting pitcher. With the loss she fell to 4-5 on the season. Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown Mayer) took over in the fourth inning. The Saints secured eight runs by the fifth inning, when the Vikings rallied and prevented any more. In the bottom of the inning Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) singled and was batted in by sophomore Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn./West Lutheran). The sixth inning heated up again, with three quick infield outs in the top, and two more runs for the Vikings in the bottom.

 

Game 2 (L 2-0)

Sophomore Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) took the mound for the second game, bringing her season record to 1-2. She allowed just two hits, and struck out eight batters, while going three for three at the plate. The game started off strong; Jensen securing the first out from a pop fly to second base. In the top of the fourth, Presentation managed the only two runs scored in the game. Rauchman fielded a bunt for an out at second to end the inning. The bottom of the sixth saw three hits from the Vikings with bases loaded, but no runs. An uneventful seventh inning finished off the day.

 

The Vikings’ next game is a home doubleheader, Friday the 15th, at 3 p.m. They will take on Northland.
