Mankato, Minn. – The men’s and women’s tennis teams played their last home match of the year against North Central. Due to weather the teams were forced to play inside at the MATC.
The men’s team fell to the Rams by a score of 9-0. Eric DeBruzzi (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) had the closest singles competition for the Vikings. He fell to his opponent 6-4, 7-5. Ben Schroeder (Minneapolis, Minn./Dakota County CC) also had a solid performance but was unable to get the win falling 6-1, 6-4.
The Vikings were not able to overcome North Central’s teams in the doubles competition. Randy Zavala (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) and Felipe Ortega (Worthington, Minn./Worthington) were defeated 8-3, as was the team of Schroeder and DeBruzzi.
The women’s team defeated North Central by a score of 7-2. Alyssa Rau (Sarona, Wis./Rice Lake) dominated her opponent winning 6-0, 6-0. Sarah Wagner (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central Area Secondary) also had a solid performance taking her opponent down 6-1, 6-0.
The women won two of their three doubles competitions. The Vikings number one and two of Rebecca Kopacek (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) and Madara Matveja (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary) came together to win 8-3. Brooke Osmundson (Delavan, Minn./Maple River) and Wagner won 8-2.
The Vikings will take on North Central again on April 30, this time as an away match in Minneapolis at the Baseline Tennis Courts.
