Softball falls to CSS but picks up win agaisnt Northland

Mankato, Minn. – It was a long day of softball on Sunday when the Vikings had three make-up games to play in a tripleheader. Bethany Lutheran first played a doubleheader against St. Scholastica, then played a single game against Northland.

 
Game 1 (L 4-8)
 

In the first game, BLC had eight hits and one error. Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) and Kyla Schapekahm (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) went two for four. Schapekahm also had one run and one RBI. Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) and Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) each had the same stat line recording one hit, one run, and one RBI in three at bats.

 

Schapekahm pitched all seven innings for the Vikes allowing 10 hits. She struck out two batters and walked six.

 
Game 2 (L 7-11)
 

In the second game Edmison got the start on the mound allowing 16 hits. She struck out three batters and walked six. Of the 11 runs scored 10 were earned runs.

 

Chester and Schapekahm again went two for four, this time each scored two runs. The Vikings three, four and five hitter had all the BLC RBI. Three hitter Jamie Goebel (Danvers, Ill./Olympia) went two for four, scoring one run and batting in three. Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn./West Lutheran) had two RBI, as did Rauchman.

 
Game 3 (W 4-3)
 

The Vikings got a win in the third game against Northland. Jensen had all four of the Vikings RBI on one hit in two at bats. She hit a home run in the first for three RBI, then the winning RBI on a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

 

Rauchman and Edmison split time at the plate. Rauchman started allowing three runs on five hits. Edmison came in for three innings to allow just two hits and no runs.

 

The Vikings will play Northwestern tomorrow in a conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
