Softball goes 3-1 over the Easter weekend

St. Bonifacius, Minn. – The Viking softball team had a successful weekend finishing 3-1. They wrapped up things before heading for a small Easter break at Crown sweeping the Storm. Bethany Lutheran split a doubleheader with Northwestern the day before.

In the first game Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) pitched all seven innings for the shut-out. She allowed seven hits, struck out one batter and walked another.

 

Bethany Lutheran had three errors in the field, while Northwester had four. The Vikings had four runs on six hits. Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) led the way going four for four, including one run and the team’s only two RBI.

 

In game two, Northwestern found a grove getting seven runs on five hits in the first two innings. Kyla Schapekahm (New Prague, Minn. / New Prague ) started on the mound, Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) then came in for some relief, Edmison finished things off for the final two thirds inning.

 

Bethany Lutheran’s sloppy play on defense made things more difficult committing six errors. Of the 13 runs scored by the Eagles, only four were earned. Chester led again hitting two for three.

Edmison got another start on the mound giving up just one hit in the first game against the Storm.  

 

This time Schapekahm went four for four with one run and two RBI. Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn./West Lutheran) went three for five with three RBI. She hit one double as did Rauchman, Edmison, and Shannon Grimmer (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray). Edmison also hit a triple while going two for four with three runs and two RBI.

 

In the second game Schapekahm was the starting pitcher. She struck out eight batters while giving up three hits and one run.

 

Jensen and Rauchman each had two RBI. Jensen went two for four with two runs, Rauchman went thee for three with two runs. The Vikings committed only one error in the doubleheader against Crown.


BLC will play conference opponents Presentation and MN-Morris today.
