Softball swept by Carleton

Northfield, Minn. – The Vikings were swept by non-conference opponent Carleton today 0-5, then 6-2. The games against the MIAC opponent came just a day after Bethany Lutheran swept rival Martin Luther at home.

Game 1 (L 0-5)

Kyla Schapekahm (New Prague, Minn./New Prague) started for the second day in a row for the Vikings. She pitched a full six innings facing 33 batters, allowing 11 hits and five runs.

Bethany Lutheran managed to get seven hits in the first game, and left nine on base unable to bat anyone home. Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) led the team with two hits. She also stole third in the first inning.

Game 2 (L 2-6)

The Vikings were finally able to get some runs in the second game, but two crossing home plate could not get the job done.

Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) pitched again for the Vikings, she started the second game yesterday. Edmison allowed nine hits and six earned runs; she also struck out two and walked two in her six innings on the mound.

Kathryn Nieman (Clear Lake, Iowa/Clear Lake) who played in left field led the team with two hits and one RBI. Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn./West Lutheran) also went two for three. The Vikings had six hits, and left six on base.

Carleton had two errors defensively, while the Vikings remained clean on the field.

Bethany Lutheran will play Minnesota-Morris at home on Saturday for a conference doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
