Men's soccer ties 3-3 after double overtime

Box Score

Mankato, Minn. – The men’s soccer team got their first tie of the season against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) opponent Crown following a 3-3 deadlock after double overtime.

Crown got on the board just seven minutes into the game to score the first goal. It was the only goal the Strom would score in the first half. Bethany answered with an unassisted goal by freshman Benjamin Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn. / Minnesota Valley Lutheran) at the 22:40 mark. Then with five minutes left in the half Ryan Behmer (Maple Grove, Minn. / West Lutheran) scored assisted by Julio Garcia (Arlington, Minn. / Sibley East) to give the Vikings a 2-1 advantage at halftime.

Crown scored to tie the game at the 62:24 mark but BLC again responded with a quick goal at the 69:13 mark. This time Juan Garcia (Arlington, Minn. / Sibley East) found the back of the net unassisted to regain the lead. With four minutes remaining on the clock the Strom got one past the Bethany keeper to tie the game. The first and second overtime remained scoreless to produce the tie. Bethany outshot Crown 20 to 11 and had an 11 to six corner kick advantage.

Noah Heidorn (Fergus Falls, Minn. / Fergus Falls) and Ryan Bolte (Colorado Springs, Colo. / Fountain Fort Carson) split time as keeper. Bolte got the start recording one save in 67 minutes before being taken out due to a collision with a Crown forward. Heidorn recorded three saves.

Next, the Vikings will travel to Minnesota-Morris to take on the Cougars on October 13th at Noon. Bethany is 5-8-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the UMAC.
