Volleyball splits last weekend at home

Mankato, Minn. – The Bethany volleyball team split their last two home games of the season. The Vikings had a dominant night against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) competitor North Central defeating the Rams in three sets. Just a day later the Vikings fell to Northwestern 3-0 in another conference match.
 
The Vikes defeated North Central 25-6, 25-13 and 25-19. Bethany had 39 kills and 12 errors while their competitor had 18 kills and 18 errors. Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn. / Truman) led the team offensively with nine kills. Wiederhoeft also had eight digs. Amanna Berthusen (Marshalltown, Iowa / Marshalltown) and Allie VanHee (Madelia, Minn. / Madelia) each had seven kills with just two attack errors. VanHee had 18 set assists and nine digs; she also led the team in services aces with three.
 
Emily Franzen (Lewiston, Minn. / Lewiston-Altura) had eight digs and led the Vikings in assists with 16. Jessi Jurries (Trimont, Minn. / Martin County West) led defensively with 15 digs.
 
The next day the Vikings took on the leader in the UMAC, the Northwestern Eagles. The Vikings fell 25-16, 25-18, 25-18. Northwestern recorded 47 kills and 17 errors while Bethany had 20 kills and 16 errors.
 
Wiederhoeft led offensively with six kills. Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn. / Nicollet) had a productive day recording five kills. VanHee led in set assists with 10, she also had six digs as did Caitlin Decker (Ramsey, Minn. / Anoka). Jurries led defensively again with 13 digs.
 
The Vikings are 4-19 overall and 3-6 in the UMAC. Next, the Vikings will travel to Crown on October 19th to play at 7 p.m.
