Softball splits with St. Catherine's

St. Paul, Minn. – The softball team split with St. Catherine’s defeating the Wildcats 5-4 and the falling 2-6.
 
Game 1 (W 5-4)
Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) earned another win pitching a complete game allowing seven hits and four runs. Only three of the runs were earned. She struck out two batters and walked two others.
 
The Vikings had six hits and three errors in the field while St. Catherine’s had seven hits and one error in the field.
 
Bethany’s five runs all came in the fourth inning. Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) got things started lacing a single up the middle. Kourtney Peterson (Waseca, Minn./Waseca) got on base with a walk. Rebecca Ludewig (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) singled to left center to fill the bases. Jessi Jurries (Trimont, Minn./Martin County West) stayed patient to walk in the first run for the Vikings. Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) singled to center field for an RBI. Cortney Hallahan (Hutchinson, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) them came up the plate, though out on the play Hallahan recorded three RBI.
 
Bethany and St. Catherine’s each left six on base.
 
Game 2 (L 2-6)
Rauchman started on the mound for the Vikings in the second game. She gave up six runs on 11 hits while recording three strike outs. Rauchman also tallied four walks.
 
The Vikings had a total of seven hits. Both of Bethany’s runs came in the top of the second when the Vikings strung together a few hits and reached base on a walk. Jurries singled to right center for two RBI.
 
Bethany left 10 on base while the Wildcats left 13 on base.
 
Next, the Vikings will take on North Central on March 31st at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader in St. Paul, Minn.
