Softball falls to Minnesota-Morris

Mankato, Minn. – The softball team was swept by Minnesota-Morris falling 2-7 and then 3-7 in a conference doubleheader. The Vikings preformed well both defensively and offensively, but struggled to string hits together to score runs.
 
Game 1 (L 2-7)
Emily Rauchman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) pitched for the Vikings. She recorded two strikeouts and five walks. The Cougars managed seven runs off of 10 hits. The game was tied 1-1 until the Cougars opened up in the top of the fifth to score six runs.
 
Cortney Hallahan (Hutchinson, Minn./Holy Family Catholic) and Ashley Jensen (Delano, Minn./West Lutheran) each had an RBI. Jensen’s RBI came on a double. Rauchman also had a double. Dani Christie (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson) led offensively going two for three with a double.
 
The Vikings had no errors while Minnesota-Morris committed one in the field. Bethany had a total of nine hits and left nine on base.
 
Game 2 (L 3-7)
Gena Chester (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) had a solid game offensively going three for three and scoring two runs. One of her hits was a double. Christie continued to have a strong bat recording a triple. Rauchman went two for four with an RBI. Amanda Edmison (Mayer, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) had Bethany’s other RBI on a ground out.
 
Edmison was pitching for the Vikes. In the full seven innings she struck out eight batters and only walked two. She allowed seven runs on 10 hits.
 
Despite only scoring three the Vikings recorded nine hits. BLC left 10 on base and had two errors in the field. Minnesota-Morris left six on base and had three errors. 
 
Next, the softball team will travel to Northland for a doubleheader on April 13th starting at 3 p.m.
