Mankato, Minn. – Bethany earned its first volleyball win of the season during the Vikings’ home opener. BLC defeated Buena Vista in three sets winning 25-13, 29-27 and 25-16.
Alyssa Fredrickson (Sanborn, Minn. / Red Rock Central) and Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn. / Truman) led the Vikings offensively putting down seven kills each. Fredrickson had a .583 attack percentage during the two sets she played. Wiederhoeft added five blocks.
Setter Emily Franzen (Lewiston, Minn. / Lewiston-Altura) led the team with 21 assist and three services aces. She added seven digs and two kills. Kasslin Swenson (Nicollet, Minn. / Nicollet) led the team in digs with 12, had five kills and also served up three aces.
In the first set the Vikings took the lead and kept it throughout. In the second set, despite Buena Vista totaling 15 kills, the Vikings managed to take the win. The score was tied 10 times during the second set with five lead changes. As a team the Vikings preformed best in the third set completing 12 kills.
Next, the Vikings will host the Bethany Lutheran Invitational on September 7th and 8th. BLC will take on St. Catherine and UW-Superior on day one, on day two the squad will take on UW-Oshkosh and St. Mary’s.
