Volleyball goes 0-4 at BLC Invite

Mankato, Minn. – The Vikings were unable to get a win during the Bethany Lutheran Invitational over the weekend. It was the third year BLC held the volleyball invitational, this year six teams including the Vikings participated.
 
The Vikes started the weekend against St. Catherine. Bethany fell in three sets 25-22, 25, 17 and 25-21. Bethany will have a chance to redeem its loss against the Wildcats in another invitational next weekend. On day one Bethany also took on UW-Superior falling 0-3. The set scores were 25-17, 25-17 and 25-22. On day two the Vikings opened against UW-Oshkosh. Bethany got off to a slow start falling in the first set 25-10. The Vikings picked up the pace but still fell in three sets; the last two sets were scored 25-18 and 25-21. St. Mary’s and Bethany faced off in the last game of the invitational. St. Mary’s defeated the Vikings in three sets 25-13, 25-23 and 25-19.
 
Shelby Wiederhoeft (Truman, Minn./Truman) led the team offensively putting down 40 kills in the four matches. She averaged 3.33 kills per set. Wiederhoeft also led the team in services aces with four. Amanna Berthusen (Marshalltown, Iowa / Marshalltown) was next in the kill category totaling 24 over the weekend.
 
Emily Franzen (Lewiston, Minn. / Lewiston-Altura) worked as setter averaging 6.67 assists per set. Leading the way defensively was Jessi Jurries (Trimont, Minn. / Martin County West) who had a total of 51 digs. Jurries averaged 4.24 digs per set.
 
The Vikings will travel to the St. Catherine Invitational on September 14th and 15th. Bethany will take on Luther and Hamline on day one, then UW-Stout and St. Catherine on day two.
