Box Score NEW ULM, Minn. - It's BLC-MLC week as the Vikings and Knights are squaring off in either volleyball or soccer three of the next four days. The first meeting between the rivals took place Wednesday night in New Ulm on the volleyball court and Martin Luther got the upper hand in this battle beating Bethany in three tight sets (25-22, 25-15, 30-28).
The first set was tied at 15 when Bethany rattled off four straight points including a block from
Kristen Mielke and a kill from
Amanna Berthusen to take a 19-15 advantage. The Knights went on a rally of their own to equal the score again at 20. Tied again at 22, Martin Luther scored the final three points of the set ending with an ace Miranda Maasz.
The Vikings wouldn't go quietly after dropping the second set. The third set went overtime as the Knights were able to close out the back and forth affair by again scoring the final three points of the frame, just like in the first set.
Kasslin Swenson led BLC with 12 kills and
Miranda Krenske added ten.
Emily Franzen dished out 22 assists with Krenske contributing 12. Mielke and
Katie Krieger had five blocks a piece and
Jessi Jurries dug out 14 balls.
Bethany (4-16, 3-4 in UMAC) is off until the 18th when they travel to Northwestern.
