Softball splits two more in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Fort Myers, Fla. - A day after splitting a pair of games in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. the Bethany softball team had did the same on Monday falling to the College of Wooster 6-3 in their first game, but then bouncing back to knock off Olivet College 7-1.

The Vikings had trouble getting runners on base against Wooster and fell behind 6-0 after four innings. They kept the base paths busy though in the final two innings in a comeback attempt, but it came up short.

Both Aimee Wiechmann and Amanna Berthusen went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

In their 7-1 win over Olivet, Bethany scored all of their runs with two outs in the second inning. Nicole Starkson led off the frame with a single to center. After Rebecca Ludewig walked and two outs were recorded, Andrea Donley hit an RBI single to center scoring Starkson to start the rally.

Gena Chester connected for an RBI single to left center scoring Ludewig. Wiechmann reached base on a single to the shortstop as Donley crossed the plate. With Ashley Jensen up, both Chester and Wiechmann scored on an error by the third baseman. Starkson, the person who started the inning, ended it when she singled to right field Berthusen and Jensen. Starkson was tagged out on a throw back to first, but the damage was done.

Along with going 3-for-3 at the plate, Starkson picked up the win on the mound throwing a complete game 5-hitter allowing one run and striking out six. She moved her record to 3-1 and dropped her ERA to 1.89.

After a day off tomorrow, Bethany returns to action in the warm Florida sun when they take on Bridgewater State and Saint Mary's of Indiana on Wednesday.
