Box Score 2 Rosemount, Minn. - Bethany returned to the Irish Sports Dome for the second straight day on Saturday for another UMAC doubleheader. A day after sweeping North Central, the softball squad earned a split with Northwestern.
The Vikings took a low scoring first game against the Eagles 2-1 behind a 10-strikeout performance from Nicole Starkson. The win bumped Bethany's winning streak to four.
Bethany took a 1-0 lead in the second. Starkson hit a one-out double to left center. Two batters later, Rebecca Ludewig singled her home with an RBI to right.
The score remained that way until the seventh. Ludewig doubled to center and came around to score on an Andrea Donley RBI single to right.
That was the insurance run they needed as Northwestern scored a run in the bottom of the frame, but Starkson was able to stop the rally attempt to secure the win.
The Vikings dropped the second game 9-3 and couldn't comeback after the Eagles hit a grand slam as part of a 5-run sixth.
Amanna Berthusen hit her second home run of the season with a blast to left center in the fourth.
Bethany heads to 9-2 in the UMAC and 16-12 overall. They are next scheduled to play Tuesday in Morris against Crown College and Minn.-Morris.
