Box Score 2 Mankato, Minn. - Monday saw the Vikings play their last home games of the season in a doubleheader against Martin Luther College losing the opener in extra innings.
All five runs for Bethany came in the fourth inning, with RBI doubles by Kelsey Pekarna and Nicole Starkson, and run-producing singles by Angela Timm and Gena Chester, who drove in two runs.
The fifth inning saw another crooked number put onto the scoreboard, with five runs being scored by MLC to even the score. The Knights, serving as the home team on the scoreboard, got a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth on a single to left.
Game two saw the Vikings score first again, with two runs coming in on a single to left by Amanna Berthusen in the first inning. But the Knights would erase that lead two innings later, with a four-run third, and would add three more in the fourth. A late home run for the Vikings would not be enough, and Bethany lost the second game by a score of 7-3.
Kelsey Pekarna went 3-4 in the game, with a solo homer in the seventh. Shannon Heitz recorded a hit every time up to bat.
With the losses, the Vikings fall to 13-6 in conference and 20-16 overall. The Vikings will take to the road on Tuesday, with a doubleheader scheduled in Morris. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
