Box Score 2 Mankato, Minn. - Due to cancellations and postponements, the Bethany softball home opener was pushed back to Friday. Conditions still weren't ideal with cloudy and chilly temperatures, but that didn't deter the Vikings from putting together a solid all-around effort as they shutout Crown in a pair of 5-inning contests.
As was the case on Wednesday at Martin Luther, pitching proved its dominance again against Crown. Nicole Starkson struck out six while only allowing two hits in the 5-inning complete game shutout.
Bethany broke the game open with a 7-run fourth inning. Andrea Donley started the frame with a single up the middle and scored two batters later when Gena Chester singled through the left side. Rebecca Ludewig later connected with an RBI double to left that scored Starkson. Donley singled again in the inning plating Ludewig.
Shannon Heitz threw a no-hitter last time out against Martin Luther and followed that up by allowing just one hit to Crown in the second game.
Starkson went 2-for-2 with an RBI double in the fourth and two runs scored. Donley knocked in two runs including an RBI single in the fourth.
The 10-0 and 8-0 wins moved Bethany's record back to .500 at 10-10 and are undefeated in UMAC play at 3-0. They next are scheduled to play at Minn.-Morris for a doubleheader on Tuesday.
