Box Score HANCOCK, Mich. - Ben Moldstad and Jason Buechler score two late goals to give the Bethany men's soccer a 2-1 win their season-opening game at Finlandia on Sunday.
If you look at the stats, it would be appear that the Vikings would not have needed the late-game heroics to come away with the victory. They outshot the Lions 38-9 and held a 12-2 shots-on-goal advantage.
Despite the apparent dominance, Bethany found themselves trailing a mere three minutes into the game. Finlandia's Jaime Cuevas scored on a penalty kick to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the game's 83rd minute when
Ben Moldstad tied the game off an assist from Julio Garcia. Two minutes later,
Jason Buechler connected with the game-winning goal off a feed from Jorge Perez.
Bethany next plays September 20 for their UMAC opener at North Central.
