Bethany begins play at Gustavus Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. PETER, Minn. - Bethany's final appearance in a regular season volleyball tournament began Friday in St. Peter at the Gustavus Invitational. As was the case in its previous two tournaments, the Vikings faced some stiff competition.

In their first match Friday, Bethany faced their sixth MIAC team of the season in Augsburg. As was the case in four of its previous five encounters with the conference, the Vikings fell to the Auggies in straight sets. Bethany had their chances to extend the match, leading by as much as six in the second set, but weren't able to close it out.

The Vikings next faced Central College of Iowa and did take a set from the Dutch, but dropped the match in four sets. After losing the first set, Bethany came out on fire in set number two. MIranda Krenske, Kasslin Swenson, and Emily Franzen all had kills in a mid-set stretch as the Vikings built a 14-7 lead. The lead continued to build and Kristen Mielke ended it with a service ace as Bethany took it 25-14.

Central won the last two taking the third set by a tight 25-23 score and closed out the match with a 25-16 win in set four.

Bethany (1-10) closes out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a 9 a.m. match against Simpson College followed by an 11 a.m. start against the hosts from Gustavus Adolphus.
