Box Score DULUTH, Minn. - The Vikings started out strong Saturday taking the first set against St. Scholastica in a UMAC volleyball match, but the Saints won the final three sets to take the match in four.
The first set was tight with neither team gaining more than a 3-point lead. Bethany trailed 18-15 before going on a 5-point spurt highlighted by three
Amanna Berthusen kills and a service ace from
Jessi Jurries. The Vikings held on to the lead the rest of the set culminating with a block assist by
Katie Krieger and
Meagan Sons as Bethany won 25-22.
St. Scholastica easily won the next two sets 25-11 and 25-16 and pulled away late to take the fourth set 25-19.
Berthusen led Bethany with 13 kills while
Caitlin Decker added nine. Three players were in double figures in digs led by Jurries with 22;
Emily Franzen totaled 19 and
Steph Koepp had 13. Franzen also led in assists with 27.
Bethany (6-17, 5-6 in UMAC) has a big matchup in store for Wednesday at Martin Luther as both teams are in contention for the fourth and final playoff spot with three matches left in the regular season.
