Vikings lose heartbreaker in Duluth

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DULUTH, Minn. - The Bethany softball team had St. Scholastica on the ropes in the first game of doubleheader Friday, but the Saints capped off a comeback with a walk-off home run and used that momentum to take game two as well to complete the sweep.

Nicole Starkson was the story in the first game. She hit her first home run of the season in the first inning and clubbed another one in the third, a two-run shot, to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead after three.

On the mound, Starkson was doing her part as well. Making her first start of the season, she allowed one run and two hits through four innings.

Bethany led 3-2 going into the bottom of the seventh. Sydney Gordon doubled to start the frame. Emily Schiro pinch ran and tied the game two batters later when Tiff Hudack doubled her in. Rendi Johnson singled to put runners on the corners. After a line out, Kara Warren came up with two outs and belted a game-winning 3-run home run to give Bethany a 6-3 setback.

The Saints closed out the sweep with a 6-0 win in game two.

Saturday's doubleheader against Northland in Duluth has been postponed due to poor forecasted weather. Bethany (4-20, 3-6 in UMAC) is set to have their home opener Tuesday against Martin Luther.
